My longest most detailed, or boring, video ever. Where I show a few of my projects from over the years. First I repaired sheets for dog covers, then I made dogs beds, then started a HUGE “granny square” quilt, and made a 80 X 100 canvas Confederate flag.
I am certainly not the best sewing instructor. But I have figured out a few things about how to run a manual machine. I show how I used guides and patterns to make the process a little easier and keep everything uniform. Without these tricks I would probably still be trying to get the 4×4 squares sewn into strips. It is still not exactly perfect but when it is all done you can’t really notice 1/8″ here or 1/2″ there.
I have maybe close to 150 hours or more in the quilt. I made it for my GF but I don’t know if I will let her use it or not.
You can’t go to Bed Bath and Beyond and get one of these for $60.00.

I finally got it done, I had to go back and cut about 18″ of binding back apart and redo it because I missed a part of the top so it had a big hole on the edge. That took another hour, but I have it done and it looks and feels great.
Just in time for fall.
Now I need to start another project!
I’m already bored!!! I guess I do need a new dog bed.

@OurAmericaLost I find I can make 5 or 6 (or more) dog bed shells or covers for less than I can buy a “large” dog bed. Mine are 4 years old and show absolutely no signs of wear. I got the Tapestry fabric remnant for about $4 and if you tried to buy something comparable you might spend $40 per yard or more just for the fabric.
I was at Joanns yesterday and saw a fabric I liked it was &75.00 a yard. It was a heavy interior upholstery fabric.

@DEBATEwithSTUPID I underestimated the difficulty of the production of this piece. But that just gave me more incentive to figure it out and get it done.
I would probably do a few things a little different to save thread, I used about 800+ yards of thread. I also said it was 9 yards of fabric for the top but I calculated it wrong it’s more like 8 yards. still a lot of fabric. It feels heavy.

@RedneckMafiaTV I coppiced the design but I like it because it is a bold graphic. The fabric is so incredibly soft it exceeded my expectations. It is absolutely Squishy soft. Much softer than the one I had so long ago. The heft and weight of it is substantial, it absolutely hugs you. My GF said it feels so good on her bare feet I should make foot quilts or slippers from the backing fabric.

I would sell this quilt for $1,800.00 and if you want one cheaper go to Bed bath and Beyond and get one made in China that’s as soft as barbed wire with a set of sheets for $65.00. They look great in the bag but once you touch the comforter and feel the gravel like texture you will know why you got it so cheap.

@DEBATEwithSTUPID Florida has always been economically depressed. It is a “retirement” state with “seasonal” jobs based on “tourism”..
Since the construction industry imploded it has gotten MUCH MUCH worse.
I never even had to look for work it always found me. I always did the best quality work and that is how I got my work. Now people just want cheap or free stuff. They would rather pay someone to do a job three times and buy material 3 times to have a job that is still inferior.

@JakeEvilclown Thats for sure! I can’t afford material any more. I have to save money and change, scrap aluminum and get assistance from the local food bank because I haven’t had any real work in over 3 years.
I can only buy material if I have a coupon and the money I spend means I have less for food. I hate to even drive to the store because it costs about $7 in gas to go the 30 mile round trip.
Yesterday I spent $6 for material (1.5 yards on sale) and it cost me $7 to drive to get it.

Obama plans to give some temporary tax cuts for hiring employees to companies that have survived the last three years/ What about all the millions of workers and small business owners who already lost their jobs and businesses? Again it’s to little to late. At least three years to late.
Jobs and unemployment were at crisis level four years ago now it’s so far past the point of no return it’s unimaginable to think about “recovery”.
